From the Where2sing.com forum:

There's two sides to it in my mind. The first issue is that often (including the case that MB brings up in the photo on the main page) is that left to their own devices, a venue will come up with their own wording for posters and whatnot. This is a really bad idea in my opinion because they're less likely to understand the needs of their audience. So many posters start with the question 'so you think you can sing?' What kind of promotional material seeks to disqualify a section of the potential audience based on a trait that, really, isn't that important? The same is true for the trivia industry where venues will print up posters with 'how smart are you?' on them. Why are we posing questions to potential patrons that results in many thinking that they can't take part? Would an operator do any better? Maybe not, but I'd prefer 'be a star' on a poster than 'do you think you can sing?'

The next generation for karaoke? Well, I still believe it will be digital in some way shape or form but to what degree and in what way, it's hard to say. There were a number of operators that went with touchscreens; FMK do I believe and 4u2S was rolling them out but I went to Blacktown Inn a few weeks ago and that venue didn't have one. Not sure if its because it wasn't in use that night, at that venue or if 4u2S venues no longer use the tech. Would be great to get MicroPhone's input on his experience with them. When I was with EE, I played around with them for a good 6 months and decided not to implement them as there was too many things that could go wrong on the night and I felt the benefit to cost (not just financially but also with time) ratio didn't warrant pursuing it. If the tech changed and became idiot proof then it might be more viable.

I'm surprised more karaoke operators aren't making their lists available online, even if its just a pdf or excel copy. Kev has his list online I believe as does Ace that does Brighton. FMK and EE have searchable database versions which are mobile friendly. The funny thing is though that while I built the EE website and songlist database, when I go to an EE show to sing, I still look at the book... And I know the list better than anyone! lol Tech Fail.
