| From the Where2sing.com forum: Yeah, if you can afford to walk away from a venue who just doesn't get it, it's usually the best. I walked out of a venue I was looking at for trivia when the guy said that the venue doesn't do entertainment. He was standing in front of three posters advertising half a week's worth of entertainment.
Having said that, some operators can't afford to walk away from venues and have to pursue every opportunity. My first comment to your guy would have been 'how much money are they spending while they're tapping their feet? Now take what they're charging you and subtract it from the spend and that's your magic number. Regardless of what I charge you, I'll triple that magic number'
Gig stealing? Perhaps, but if I got the gig based on that then this manager's primary concern was bar take and the existing host should have known that. What is the existing host doing to cater to the venue's needs? If he was checking these boxes, he'd never lose the gig unless the venue simply didn't want him there anymore.
