LB & MB, I know of a couple of private comps outside of the KWC, but one of these comps suffered from one main problem - favouritism. This comp was run at a pub over your end of the world MB and the show itself was once run by someone we both know in a major country town. After being told by a mate who was there and competing what transpired, it was no surprise to me who won the night, although he himself made quite an impact on the audience with his performance (one of the judging criteria). The person who did win (who is also known to me) is a local woman who has, for a couple years, made some money out of her voice. This was known to the host and management yet they still insisted on allowing her to go through the process, plus I was also told that her finals performance wasn't exactly up to par. Then there was the question of a sympathy vote. This comp was to raise money for a local cancer ward and she was also telling how her Dad had died of cancer. I am just hoping in the interests of the competition that:

a/ she didn't use this to get a sympathy vote and

b/ the judges didn't look more favourably on her because of her story.

While cancer is not a nice thing to have and I do sympathise myself with sufferers, it should never be used in this way for some financial gain through these kind of competitions. (First prize was $1000) Oh, and in the interest of fairness to the story, my mate came in 10th.
Also, there is a competition that just came to a head over here at the Malaga Markets just last night (Sunday). Would love to hear from anyone who was there how they panned out and if it was a fair comp.
