From the Where2sing.com forum:

I'm a big fan of intrinsic value (or brand value) but the simple fact of the matter is that entertainment is booked to generate an income for the venue. The first question is - how do you measure that value and its an important question because not all value *can* be measured. Tom no longer going to the venue because Wed karaoke has been cancelled simply can not be measured (at least not with any kind of variable isolation). So, what can be measured? Bar take, food sales and poker machine takings. How much of that take would occur whether the karaoke was there or not? In other words, how much value exists *because* karaoke is there and wouldn't be there if it wasn't? I'm not saying its an easy question, or that it has an easy answer however if the show costs 10 times the income that is received during the course of the karaoke and there's a strong argument that 50% of that income would come in whether the karaoke was there or not, then cancelling the karaoke actually makes money for the club.

Being a club and not a pub introduces its own profit/value considerations for sure and I'm certainly not saying that the decision is the correct one because I'm not in any way informed on the patronage at the venue or their spending habits. Having said that, I know of plenty of shows that have been cancelled because there were never more than 10 people in the room and then suddenly you have 40 people complaining about the cancellation. Financial support is the best kind of support you can give a karaoke show.
