From the Where2sing.com forum:

I'm just reading a book about the early film industry, in which Paramount enforces 'block booking' as as way to sell less popular films along with the blockbusters that the movie theaters want to buy, and the way that this has been viewed though the years as an attempt at monopolisation and restraint of competition and free trade. Independent economists have, however, concluded that such behaviour doesn't necessarily extend the life of a monopolistic company, as we're currently seeing with the steady demise of Microsoft.

It occurs to me that karaoke disc manufacturers for years padded their offerings with less popular tracks as a way to sell a lot more discs as singers wanted the main popular tracks now spread across 10 discs where they could have been all concentrated into one. Does anyone else think that this, and other modus operandi (Latin, Mr Orr, not French this time) have ended up working against the karaoke disc manufacturers - and that they relied too heavily on ways to restrict singers' options, and are now paying for it dearly as singers take the other options (eg: download)?
