| From the Where2sing.com forum: Vic, I've been working furiously on something completely different in programming, and am happy to report that I'm more than two years into my three-month project...lol . I believe I now have a clearer idea of what an eventually new W2S needs to be.
Firstly, I notice that the programming of the database and gig listing structure has survived where forum-based websites (I did once think of turning W2S to that focus) have fallen by the wayside in the shadow of Facebook, as has W2S's forums, and that there is an increasing amount of activity around W2S's gig listings these days. That tells me that the future of W2S is around the listings, and since the world is quickly going 'mobile', my current project needs to complete so that I have the platform on which I can build a new W2S.
The next thing is that I realise W2S's gig listings should be expanded to incorporate trivia, open mic and all the other events that are common to karaoke by way of being occasional or at the very least transient in nature and often unknown unless you happen to be in the right place at the right time - in other words, something that only a website like W2S can properly track, manage and present. As for whether W2S, or its larger and more general replacement, should be a complete website or simply a 'listings platform' for use by karaoke hosts, singers, hotels, booking agents and the like in making their own website - that is something on which I'm still thinking.
Suggestions, ideas, and certainly comments/complaints about the present W2S, are most welcome as they will continue to give me food for thought.
