| From the Where2sing.com forum: I already have a website plugin that I use on my websites that basically use Google Maps and pins based on a series of selection criteria. This would have been expanded once I started getting serious about a generic 'where2playtrivia' type of site that I was thinking about.
The angle I was approaching it from is common to karaoke: patrons have an idea of what they like in a show and how far they're willing to travel in order to go to a show so the most accessible way of displaying that information is via a cluster map generated from user based selection criteria. For example, let's say I'm looking for a karaoke show that has a song list of over 10,000 songs (a more advanced database would somehow link to a hosts songlist and so I could even see which shows have a particular song I like), has a bistro open until 9, has on site or street parking and goes for at least 4 hours and of course day of the week. I then use those selection criteria to cull all venues that don't match and display those that do within 25km of my current location. Maybe I am left with 6 venues, maybe I can see if anyone of my friends have previously checked into those venues before or maybe I can bring up pics of those venues, select one, select driving instructions and off I go.
That kind of 'this is what I like, show me the venues that match' translates very strongly with trivia players as well where they might choose prize type, food, parking, question format, question difficulty etc as their selection criteria.
This now becomes a really powerful tool for hosts where they can use these cluster maps to see which areas are under represented with karaoke and see if there is a good reason why or if its ripe for someone to go in there. This ultimately means more choice for those in that area which of course benefits singers.
