From the Where2sing.com forum:

David,
presuming that i was in fact saying that we know better than the punters, would be erroneous in a major way , my personal belief is that the Boiling Point in question was nothing more than a moan about something that could have been better explained to the host on duty at that venue..(also the fact that they would have gotten 2 points to access the gig guides ) I don't go to other hosts gigs uninvited because they get snippy and think that i am there to steal their gig, but what i do try and do every week is change or adapt something in the line up so that there's always a freshness about what i'm doing. I also spend most of my time flitting from control boxes to laptops to lighting rigs ,checking sound levels, advising punters on song choice , adjusting fold-back levels, queuing the next 3 songs ,taking in expressions of advice and also SMILING whilst i get told by a 18 year old that they sounded terrible and it was my fault (she sounded like a dog baying in pain) Education in what we do during a night wouldn't hurt some of these Diva's (well maybe their ego's) and if my tirade from the other day opens some eyes then so be it! The day i stop trying to make a gig better is the day i'll hang up my microphone. I LISTEN to what the singers that come to any gig of mine wants,or needs to make their night more enjoyable ...As i was told once by a very smart old Dutchman (not you Vic) If the punters want it try and give them it,or you'll lose them to somebody who will. Oh and David? go have sexual intercourse with your foot wear lmao
