From the Where2sing.com forum:

David: You're right in that the vast majority of concerns singers have revolving around the wait time. I've been trying to think of any other queuing system that is so arbitrary and subject to change and I can't think of one.

You have first round that is of an indeterminate length, positions of your next song which can change depending on whether the host is using the 'slot in new singers' approach so I dare say that any host who started their career by telling every singer when they can expect to sing when the slip is handed in has eventually stopped doing that due to the likelihood of that information being incorrect several times a night. One might think its only a problem if the singer complains but what in reality happens is that the host develops a reputation of running a poor rotation. 'The host told me it would 1hr but it was actually 1hr20'. 20min sounds like a lot to be out by but over 1hr (15 songs), that merely equates to each song going a little over 60 seconds longer than expected or slotting 4 new singers. I started out giving out waiting times and stopped doing it after about a week after I realised it would lead to nothing but bad blood. I'd say most hosts would agree that not giving wait times is better than giving it (unless someone specifically asks)
