From the Where2sing.com forum:

Experimentation is, I think, vital for the sustaining of a vibrant and relevant industry. And I think that computer based karaoke has so far failed to deliver on its promise of improving karaoke in leaps and bounds by way of more than just playing computer files. Great that tracks now come from a computer without all that messing around with discs, but where is the direct singer-to-computer input to determine rotation? Where is the public knowledge of where everyone is in the queue as a result of that? Why hasn't computer freed up hosts to spend the bulk of their time hosting, spruiking and encouraging singers? The computerised systems I've seen (and I admit to being out of date on this) were little more than the previous manual systems embedded in a computer - and CAVS was to my mind one of the worst offenders.

If we leave aside singers' feelings at being at any particular position in the rotation, or indeed by their position being moved by singers being slotted in before them, then the concept of everyone being able to see the rotation is an interesting one. Or, consider that not being able to see your position in a rotation is a little akin to not being allowed to see a songlist and know what song you'll be singing. It's generally considered that uncertainty of lifespan is worse than the certainty of death, and so perhaps knowledge of the rotation is key to singer happiness.
