| From the Where2sing.com forum: This brings me round nicely to what should be in W2S, or what role W2S takes or should take.
W2S was, of course, borne out of my own need to find karaoke places following my discovery that any listings on the Internet back in the early noughties (naughties?) were of questionable accuracy, and having built a list for myself it was a small step to put it on a webpage. But I always wondered, does W2S control gigs by virtue of public listings, or do the gigs control W2S by virtue of having to be there in the first place for W2S to list.
In the event, I think W2S performs as the communication connector between all parties, or if it doesn't currently do that adequately (big part missing is venue-to-host bookings) then it could or should. And it's when considering this as the central mandate for W2S that I think W2S Mk III should have a different structure - one that fills this role of 'communications clearinghouse'.
That fits really well with this question of what the KJ software should really be doing, as on one hand we have hosts who would use it, singers who would perhaps also use it but certainly be subject to it, and developers who are into karaoke and thus in a position to receive the information on W2S. Or is this not possible unless W2S becomes an international 'karaoke communications clearinghouse'?
