From the Where2sing.com forum:

I agree that it's fair to say that W2S's strength is in the gig database along with the feedback on gigs. Originally it seemed a job of assembling info from other Internet sources and putting it in date order to make sense, but it soon turned out to be an acquisition problem that was solved by input from singers - for example, a singer commenting on a recently visited gig serves to confirm it as still running.

But how to improve this? Firstly, a rewrite of W2S will require such time that it would need to serve more than karaoke, and secondly I think karaoke might attract new singers by W2S Mk III (obviously with a new name) serving a much wider interest market - Trivia, Bands, OpenMic etc. In seeking to understand the commonality, I realise that the programming of W2S could equally well serve all 'occasional entertainment', in other words all events that are tied to a location and a time, and not just to a location.

This alone means that W2S Mk III will need to be separated from its underlying structure - and that structure will need to be dedicated to assembling, ordering and serving what is currently the job of the gig database. So, taking away the underlying structure of W2S, the one that's anyway largely transparent to users, will leave W2S with a gig database and feedback common to any other website that wishes to link to the new, separate database - W2S would then stand or fall on the quality of everything else that it did.

Which brings me back to the central question - what is it that singers and hosts want W2S Mk III to solve, or, rather, where would the industry players see karaoke as going in, say, the next decade?
