| From the Where2sing.com forum: Is this the way of the future with music, to be allied with TV or some similar commercial video medium, where the music is purely a subset of a bigger performance? Is music just to be the accompaniment to a hyped up look or persona, as a soundtrack to a production 'property'?
Is the success of music in the future really in the hands of the promoters and not propelled to popularity of the shoulders of merit?
There may always have been an element of promotion in the success of music in that the songwriter had to battle existing distribution channels, but is the distribution channel now so firmly in the grip of these TV personalities backed by a handful of worldwide powerhouses that music is now just an element of their own production, and that we won't again see the enormous popular hits of the past fueled by the availability of the distribution channel to wayward songwriters?
If this is so, I can see karaoke gaining hugely in popularity as new generations discover the music of yesteryear, whilst today's popular music industry stagnates whilst skimming the last few dollars from a medium largely devoid of innovation.
