[1] Brand of Laptop, [2] Hard Disk size, (At least 500Gb), [3] Amount of Memory, [4] Graphics Card and/or Accelerator, [5] Karaoke Software.
I use a couple of Macbooks with upgraded Hard Disk & Memory, running Kjams software. Been using this for a couple of years now with no major hiccups.
My suggestion would be to try ringing around some of the Karaoke shops - eg. Capital Karaoke, Australian Karaoke Distributors, etc., and also some of the Hosts that are using Computers. A lot of research is required, so that you end up with what's best for you!
