From the Where2sing.com forum:

MB: The issue is not 'first in first served' or not, the allegation against a venue is that people are coming to the venue, putting a song down and then leaving and going to another venue or going back home or something.

David: It's pretty common for hosts to get off their butt and walk around a bit to see who is floating around elsewhere in the venue. I remember when I used to host at Peakhurst Inn (and Microphone may confirm that this is still required), when the smoking ban came in, the vast majority of the patrons took to sitting outside so they could smoke and chat. It became the cool place to sit and there were hardly anyone inside. Part of the role of the host under those circumstances would be to continuously be aware of who was still at the venue, where they were etc. I don't know the venue that this alleged situation is taking place at so I don't know what degree of inconvenience would be placed on the host to be sufficiently informed of the location of patrons. However, I would say that if you can't see a patron after 30 min after having a look around then they get kicked out of the rotation. It's like going into a bank, placing a marker in your position to keep your place and then going off to do the shopping. Its just rude. If you want to be in the queue then a requirement is that you have to be at the venue. Patronage is the equivalent of holding your place in line.
