| From the Where2sing.com forum: The biggest problem saying 'no ballads' is how you define it. To Be With You by Mr Big is a ballad but it has a strong 'sing along' quality to it that fits karaoke really well. I would call My Way a ballad but would someone else? Is a ballad just a slow song? I don't think so. Are all slow songs ballad? Again, not really.
Many years ago (back when W2S had stories and reviews on the front page) I went on a karaoke crawl and wrote an article about it, covering 4 Friday night venues. I remember popping into Sly Fox and seeing the book only had about 20 pages in it. However, every single song sung that night had an amazing energy to it and when you look through the list, a decent answer as to why was likely because I couldn't find any slow songs in the book.
Now, you will alienate some people with this approach, I think I'd be more in favour of having one master book with your entire list in it but then a whole bunch of 'browser books' which contain stuff you'd prefer singers submit. Hard to deny though what I saw at Sly Fox that night.
