From the Where2sing.com forum:

I have atwo questions for all the hosts and operators out there,

why is it that at the majority of venues, well here in Sydney at leats, do operators and hosts set up either behind the singer or very close to the singer, or in the case of a proper stage, on the stage itself.

Yes I know there are space restraints at some venues but when there is ample room at venues what is the excuse then. Is it a vanity or ego thing...look at me, I am the host.

Why is it that most operators who set up behind the speakers do not get off their behinds and listen to the sound that they are producing.

When an operator is positioned behind the speakers what they hear, usually, is the music with a lot of bass, when this occurs they adjust the mix so there is less bass or they increase the mids and highs so it sounds good from where they are listening but sounds very average or terrible in front of the speakers.

I have only been to a handfull of venues where the operators could be bothered to get out from behind their mixers and listen and adjust the music mix and at those venues the music definately sounded better.
