Dear David I am Steve from The Beach House Pub in Surfers Paradise!!! I , SIR, NEVER DRINK WHILE I AM WORKING!!! i find ur aticle to be offensive and factually inaccurate!! Unsmiling yet offering information with regard to up coming renovations??? Your attack on the host appears bitter and is definately unwarranted. The conditions he laboured under that particular night were not the best! Our in house system works fine and has plenty of punch but the assertion that i was drinking on duty implying alcohol is disgraceful.

Thank you for coming to the website, and for reading the article, and of course I'm sorry (but unsuprised) that it did not meet your approval. Whilst I didn't infer that you were doing anything other than drinking some refreshment whilst standing at a table socialising and watching the venue, I can understand how this could be misinterpreted and is a delicate point. I've therefore added a bracketted note to the story so readers know that you don't drink alcohol on duty - in case they imagined otherwise. Having two gentleman, yourself and the security guy, standing square-on and facing one at the entrance upon arrival is perhaps a little intimidating, and I recognise that you may not be aware of the effect of body language. I'm also aware that, with hindsight, you might be a bit appalled to find an account of my visit published as a story, but -hey - 'them's the breaks' and is the inherent danger of a venue not operating in a way in which it would like to present its public image. I was indeed a little surprised that a manager would not have made some mental connection between a person photographing his venue and some sort of impending publicity, and I thought I gave you every opportunity to make that connection when I told you 'I like to photograph every venue I visit'. I did like your venue, as I mentioned in the story. Happily, you are in obvious control of the proceedings, and if you were to visit the alternative Monday night karaoke venue in the area, you would see the vast difference in business available from such an event where the host displays a professionalism resulting in a good connection with his audience. As you will have found out, I review a lot of venues and write my reviews in such a manner that the managers can easily fix the problems and increase their business dramatically. I hope you manage to capitalise of this opportunity. And, of course, be very aware of each and every patron's ability to publicise the venue's operation, especially the punter who comes camera in hand...lol!
