Knowing David, I think he wrote that interview intending to hold interest and encourage debate, the hallmark of any good jouralist and he certainly suceeded. I think the general public will remember the name and check it out of curiousity and if its improved BAM - you got 'em.
There are lots of venues that are bagged here that I love to bits and overlook the faults. Likewise, there are some that are praised and don't agree with me at all. I use these reviews to discover new places, a feel for what to expect and then I draw my own conclusions. I think the greater general public is pretty smart like that.
I do have to say there is a huge amount of experience here and it is probably fair to say that a great host is an average singer and visa versa. There is a damn good reason why I refuse to host: I can't promise I'll look like I'm having a great time all the time, nor can I stay away from the mic, nor can I bring myself to smalltalk the whole room - it ain't my nature. However, like many here, I can recognise a great host suited to the venue that they are working. Advice freely given here is probably worth its weight in gold for that reason.
