| From the Where2sing.com forum: Shazzy... yes, indeed, as I noted in my review, there was a sort of band sound and atmosphere that was really exciting - and I really expected to see Live Band Karaoke in some of the bigger venues. What I found is that there is a number of singers at the upper end of karaoke, and which often competes in competitions, and sings in front of live bands in Sydney. Apparently these singers have to sign up in advance, practice their numbers with the band, and perform on the night (often as part of a sort of talent quest).
I have only seen the one Live Band Karaoke, and I felt it needed better organisation to work in a pub/casual environment.
Firstly, I think the whole band needs to be playing from the moving words on screen, so that at least the singer has some familiar point of reference. I also wonder whether the chords and timing for the musicians could also be shown (ala guitar chords on sheet music style), so that they could play a much wider range with less practice. This at least would lead to there being something that everyone was following - otherwise I think it takes a remarkably good band to survive a new singer (and possibly one who falters).
