| From the Where2sing.com forum: Taking on from Rovics comments about improvement to shows, there's one thing that I rarely see, and which surprises me. In fact, I first saw it done well when Elliot set up at the Orchard Tavern in Chatswood, NSW.
And it's a 'karaoke show' setup. The karaoke was held in the restaurant - a nicely carpeted and long room set with tables. In came Elliot's portable stage, and off one side of it he set up his console draped with standard black cloth. But the stage was framed (like a giant four-poster bed) and with black cloth at the back and the far side, and lights fixed to the front and side gantries. The effect was like a theatre waiting for real performers, and indeed when people sang they did become the focus of attention.
The last time I saw this was at a venue where recently they were holding competition heats, and indeed a proper RSL stage was used. The effect of again 'dressing' the stage as for a real performance meant that the audience positioned itself awaiting the performance.
Both venues were really theatrical, and seemed to me to take karaoke to a higher level. In fact, neither would have been expensive or time consuming, and I wonder whether there are many other venues (I've seen very few) that go to this level?
