From the Where2sing.com forum:

Vic yes I agree this is not about what sort of gear is used.
If a Host only has a DVD player then they are limited to the songs they play anyway (VCD and DVD’s) and would draw a crowd accordingly.
Getting Host together in NSW to form a Karaoke Association is not about the size of a Host speakers either or how many lights a host has but more about ethics used in the Karaoke Industry.
The Motor Trade Association of New South Wales has developed for their industry a Code of Ethics and a standard of professional conduct.
They together have set minimum standards that each member abides by (in their own words) to enhance the ability of members to trade professionally and fairly within the motor industry.
The Association has as part of its code of ethics that they will comply with State and Federal Laws.
If this was introduced into a newly formed Karaoke Association as part of their Code of ethics it would mean that no member would use burnt discs.
The MTA also negotiates with Government at all levels, to enhance the ability of members to trade professionally and fairly within the motor industry.
In the case of the Karaoke Association I see negotiations with the likes of APRA of behalf of its member’s interest.
These are just some of my thoughts.
Kind Regards
Kev
