| From the Where2sing.com forum: g'day all, i can't believe that some of you actually think you are in so good with your publicans that your job will always be safe.
i was at the sphinx in geelong for 3 years and built it from 20 punters to 500 - 600 punters weekly, after a few undercutting opperators canvassed the sphinx, finally management asked me to drop my price, i refused, bye bye wolfie, undercutters come in & after six months had lost most of the crowd, hence recall the wolf, with only about 60 0r so punters coming in i rebuilt it again to about 500 regular punters over the next 8 months, the publican then asked me to drop my price again, again i refused, the publican is now running with a songlist of 800 songs all on dvd and paying a walk in host $100 plus drinks. now the venue only has about 200 punters weekly. i have spoken to the publican since and he has informed me that it is only business and that if i wish to return i would have to drop my price. so i take it these days from experience that no gig is safe while undercutters are around. publicans are business people and when a few undercutters go into a venue the publican starts to wonder if he is being ripped off.
