| From the Where2sing.com forum: Hi James:....It may be very well the case that we ..up here in the deep north of QLD may be a little behind the National trend..and while I do see a general resurgence of Live bands in QLD....it doesnt appear to be at the expense of a quality Karaoke show.
On Wednesday Nights we do the Royal George Hotel in The Valley(8pm-1or2am Brisbane)
If you happen to know The Valley at all ...there are many pubs..clubs...and other forms of entertainment in that area....and yet when the Majority of those places have emptied out and closed for the night..The RG is often still pumping hard...infact many of the singers...band members...and other performers who have finished their own Gigs in the area for the Night....Head down to the RG to sing a few...dance/drink a bit ..and generally unwind before going home.
What I am seeing tho ...is an increasing awareness by Venues in knowing the difference between a quality Karaoke show and others......and it would appear to me that 'Karaoke in the Corner' type operators ...as I call them ...are finding it increasingly difficult to secure quality venues.....in other words operators with say a 200 watt amp...2x100watt speakers.... a Player and TV on a table with small songlists ...will be confined to the 'Small corner pub' as you say....and many Venues are now looking for bigger and better
As For our 3 venues ....Karaoke has consistently drawn the bigger crowds..the only time that Bands have outdone Karaoke... for us at least..are bands the likes of Spiderbait Sonic...etc....and as for Single acts..Duos..and Local Bands.they just dont seem to get the support that they probably deserve...Why that is ? ..I dont know?
