From the Where2sing.com forum:

As some of you will recall, I wrote some articles on 'how to sing karaoke' on my website www.how2sing.com (which I will be adding to shortly with some general interest articles). As I see it the main distinguishing feature of karaoke is keeping pace with the unforgiving machine. Not everyone can adapt to this.

Because of the tremendous song repertoire (5000+ at some gigs) there is little excuse for off-key, off-synch singing as there are so many 'talking' songs available that don't really require a big range and can even be sung monotone to good effect. We should spread the word about the simple trick of changing key up or down to fit our range.

Certainly, I've seen some people improve dramatically. Others who don't seem to have their own agenda for not bothering to perfect the last song before lurching into the next too-difficult challenge. There is a certain stubbornness centred around this being 'just a hobby'' and 'all about having fun', but how does this logic apply to people who come bi-weekly year in and year out? I can't think of another hobby debased in this way.
