| From the Where2sing.com forum: Natalie... I haven't seen anything previously specifically for karaoke, so this may be a new part of the website. APRA seems to contain a lot of people running round and doing, well, I've never quite worked that out - but in recent times I've noticed several News Email opt-ins from apra addresses - so maybe they are feeling the heat about their reputation for inactivity in this area.
Anyway, I believe the answer to this licence is that karaoke discs that display full graphics related to the song (which is why many display just the words or generic videos unrelated to the song) is that these fall under the category of licence which also includes video jukeboxes (as distinct from normal audio-only jukeboxes) for which the annua licence is somewhere over the $800 mark. Happily, I believe that most karaoke venues will already possess this licence as they will have required it for their other forms of entertainment.
But maybe you'd like to pose your question to APRA (be sure to request a public answer - one which you can quote) - and I wish you better luck than I have in getting emails answered by the Toothless Tiger.
