| From the Where2sing.com forum: Geez , you guys !!......David & (Dr.) Tom , You're frying my brain just trying to keep up with the psycho-analytical take on a night out at Karaoke ! ( I hope ) I'm not that extroverted or reckless that I'm finger painting the front fence in shades of brown with a peg on my nose , nor am I sitting quietly with clenched teeth , cross-legged & red-faced (faeced ?) with ambitious determination. I'd like to think I'm somewhere in the middle (is that mediocre ?) . I've been known to do the same song more than once (4 or 5 times) & may come back to it in the future , after I've left it fallow for a time , if I think it wont give the audience the sit & spits ....!! ,but I also love doing new songs , that's why it's great to get along to a new venue with a new host to check out their song list. You can nearly always find 1 or 2 songs that no-one else has got , making it all worthwhile that you've stepped outside your Karaoke
comfort station....oops!! ... I mean zone !!
It's an ego thing.....we all like to have everyone stop what they're doing & watch us for a moment (or longer if we can hold their attention)
& that's why some people stick to the same song religeously. It's the Pavlov's dog syndrome. The audience has responded positively to a particular song in the past , (probably with sympathy & encouragement) & their ego is often too fragile to risk a negative response from a different song , so they stick with what works.
Having said all that , Dr. Tom , I'd love to have you stop & listen to one of my songs one day , & give me your opinion. After I've sung a song, I often hear these voices telling me I'm really good , but I turn around & no-one's there !! Then the growing queue at the toilets ( & they're all singing that Cat Stevens song...'Oh I cant keep it in , I cant keep it in I've gotta let it out...') makes me wonder whether I'm not just a little delusional !! Oh well , they say you've got to be a little bit crazy to survive in this world , & I sing to myself as much as I talk to myself (which is HEAPS) !! Now , if you'll excuse me , I must go.....nature's calling ......!!!!
P.S.....Who/what's Junger/Jungian...? I hope you have an answer shortly . In the meantime , it's cold & I'm going to put on my wrap-around (straight) jacket ....!!......he he , ha ha , hoo hooah......................
