Carl Jung was Freud's first and main protege rival. Marg informs me that the 'retentive v expulsive' dichotomy would likely translate in Jungian terms (refer to the many online free Myers Briggs pop-psych assessments) as follows:
retentive karaoke singer = introverted, (sensate), thinking
expulsive karaoke singer = extroverted, (sensate), feeling
In other words, some think too long before they leap. Others leap without thinking, & have no remorse if they land on & squash someone else (sort of an unwelcome nosh-pit dive).
