Yes it is a tough one and thank you to all who had there say.
I like the way everyone seems to have a different angle in different areas.
Yes we do all seem to relate in some way to the ethics of a host entering a comp.
I do tend to agree that we, as hosts, are perceived by our public as “professional singers”
James t, if you are being employed to sing 2 x small 40 min dinner sets you are a paid professional singer, have you earnt more than $2000 doing that in the past 12 months???

I sang in bands for 15 years 3-4 nights a week but stopped in 1991 and have not earnt a cent or won a cent from “professional singing” !! I meet all the criteria to enter the competition, should I enter??
Ceepat, I think you may have the answer. I would not want my Karaoke show followers to talk ill about me because I have entered a Karaoke Competition I feel they would loose a little respect for me as a HOST. I do agree with the ETHICS side of this discussion and the perception our singers have that attend our shows.

I to, if I am out with fellow Karaoke Singers enjoy having a sing and a joke. I do not feel I have what it takes to win a competition now, you heard some of the talent we had at the last Karaoke Idol comp…. my God…awesome !!! I feel you would do well....Personally I myself, would not enter.
David (NSW) we seem to be on the same wavelength. I will be honest; I do not really want a comp Chaser to take away my 1st Prize. The reason I put these comps on is to hopefully give someone who frequents a venue regularly, sings for the pure enjoyment and social aspect, and really does not care if he/she wins or looses, give someone who will probably will never get the chance, to perform on a big stage, big light show 500+ crowd and be really “blown away” with the experience. That would be my ideal winner.
