One more point on mic technique...
This one's mainly for the younger peeps and goes out especially if you can't hear yourself on stage.
When you hold the microphone, be sure your hand doesn't cover the bit that is designed to pick up your voice. Your typical pop stars might hold microphones in such fashion but bad news people, in their live shows, they're often miming all but one line here and there and you can bet for those one line moments or when they're speaking, their mic isn't covered. Don't concentrate on holding your mic in an attempt to look cool, it looks stupid to anyone who knows you're not going to be heard or worse, cause feedback hum from covering it with your hand. It's amazing just how much it mutes the sound of say a Shure SM-58 just by holding the sides of the mouthpiece. Keep your hand down and AWAYYYYYY from the pick up!! Your KJ and audience will thank you for it - unless your voice is grating of course. lol Still..... better you get credit for good mic technique if nothing else! ;P
