Dear Music Addict,
My comment was in response to Roz's comments about Pete Graham's show not having gone over to cordless mics. There is no denying that your own ability is paramount, as is the mix, but there is still many a singer and operator who prefer a corded mic and that it may be for this reason that he has chosen to for-go the cordless versions. I also agree that anchoring a singer can often help maintain your control over a show. The show that Roz mentioned, is in a very large open area and it is probably good judgement, not cost, that is the major factor in the decision to stay with corded mics. This club often has a 'boisterious' crowd, to the extent that they no longer allowed to sell jugs of beer, shots and that there are limits on how many drinks a customer may buy at any one time. I have sung there on a number of occasions with a band and whilst the crowd, which is normally large, are alot of fun, they can get a little over zealous.

I totally agree that a good operator can still make a singer sound good on low quality mic and a poor operator can butcher a mix even when using high quality equipment but that doesn't alter the fact that most people have their own personal preferences.
