I once had a singer who covered all but an area of the size of a 10c coin, with his head thrown back with the mic at nearly a right angle to the stage floor. He proceeded to tell me about his 'professional' mic technique which he had moulded on that of the big pop/rock icons. Of course mixing him was an absolute nightmare!! Such a shame, beside the problems attached to mixing mics held in this fashion, it also constricts the vocal chords and does nothing to enhance the voice. What some people also fail to realise is that these performers have a sound tech(s) that mix for them, and them alone, knowing exactly what they are going to do and when they are going to do it. Not at all like the KJ operators who have to mix many different singers on any given night.
