I do, however, believe that in Australia we have a much greater adherence to playing legal discs than in the States, and that this is directly responsible for the number of Aussie hits that we have available at karaoke. I have tried to get an answer out of APRA as to whether they really will follow up any reports of pirated discs, and despite several months of attempting to get an answer, APRA seems unable to tell me what areas of Australia they are able to cover, and in what timeframe they might act.
Australia is a comparatively tiny market for karaoke companies - though the nearly 1,000 gigs listed on W2S compared with far less on the equivalent UK website may suggest we have a booming industry here. Therefore our supply of Aussie karaoke hits is fragile, and if we want people like Capital Karaoke to continue releasing these, we need to all ensure that their market is undamaged by pirates.
