There is also a precedent with Telstra suing a company that re-keyed their phonebooks and sold the databases for mailing companies. Telstra won on the basis that they had to put wo into assembling public information into a usable list.
Dean... W2S relies on hosts and venues listing their gigs. The incentive for a company to not falsely list gigs as no longer running is that it then leaves it open for anyone to relist the gig and exclusively control the listing. If you know of any gigs that are not on W2S, please let me know - if I have to reinstate gigs that have been removed but are actually running, I will place them under your control, and you can therefore add the details that you see fit (but which of course must be reasonably accurate).
Robert (A.K.A. Not a host)... ownership of a gig listing on W2S is held by the person who lists the gig, but
- after 30 days of not being ReConfirmed, anyone can Edit (and therefore control) it
- after 20 days of not being ReConfirmed, anyone can mark it as No Longer Running
As for your hypothetical example, the gig would be listed on W2S as soon as Missy Singsalot listed it (both Subscribers and non-Subscribers can do this - but the database will prevent gigs from being listed 'over the top' of already running gigs). Missy Singsalot also has control of the gig listing - unless she has contributed intentionally false or misleading information (in David's view). But as long as the gig is ascertained to be running, it will continue to be listed on W2S.
