Rovics:

You disappoint me. I thought higher of you than that. You obviously aren't as fair minded as I'd thought.

Perhaps some background. I'm a civic minded person who wants to help people. My medium term goal for some time and one I'm slowly building up for is karaoke for the disadvantaged who don't fall into that category so many of you seem to disparage. Subscriptions for what should be free information is the vilest form of piracy to someone on a limited income. Pensioners, unemployed etc.

Hosts such as I perceive you to be, are such that your providing free entertainment for people attending a venue and in turn such venuw requires the attendees to spend big, buy food, buy drink, gamble, etc etc etc. That's well and good and in itself in more or less ethical.

Now to reiterate a comment posted by many people, giving up a drink or two, etc to pay for a subscription to find out what should be public information, is a small price to pay. For a pensioner on a very restricted budget, to come up with much money at all would be very difficult and therefore not the sort of patron you hosts or your venue want. So you make the information only available to a select elite with enough money to make it worthwhile.

I however am not so narrow minded and having been at the bottom scale of income at one time in my life, do not believe in such discrimation. Having things your way brands you as a sort of Sheriff of Nottingham in Karaoke Land. Having been one of those people who submitted venues and venue ratings as such way back in David's early days am offended by the process. Project Gutenberg was created to allow the less fortunate masses to be able to read materials they would never have access to. I would say based on your last comment that you would have been opposed to the Project and that reading of the classics belongs only to the upper class.

Shame shame shame.
