From the Where2sing.com forum:

Ok so you start the night with a 4 singers at say 8:30pm. Half an hour later you have 10 and the line steadily grows to 27 at say 10pm. As the line gets longer so do the naggers! 'When am I up? I usually place a name on top of each pile and rotation is visible to anyone coming around to hand in another song or check what song is up next. New singers are rotated in the line (usually have to wait 5 songs) and they stay in that rotation. I know some operators who simply slot every new singer to the end of the line regardless of whether the rotation is near the end or at the beginning of the next round. This could mean in a line of 27 that the new singer could wait for OVER AN HOUR for their song to come up!

Here's crunch.......A puts in a song, B is next. A wants B to sing with them (last minute decision on A's part) (knowing they are up next). I put B up next (because that's the rotation). So this means A has sung twice in the first round. This has not gone unnoticed by H and J (who also happen to like singing together but very rarely do). So H is called and invites J up. J is further down the line. The song finishes and I call up K. Both H & J come storming up to demand why J wasn't 'allowed' to sing the next song because I did that for A & B!!!!!! (favouritism)! Duhh???

Now I'm not perfect and I believe we have a fair system of rotation and I am NOT into favouritism. What the singer doesn't understand is that the nagging is duplicated tenfold throughout the night and the pressure to get to those who seem to have waited forever is hard to bear (because as a host, I do care).

'Oh but my song is better' and 'I can really sing' and 'we wanna hear that song now' and 'No one will know if you slip me up a bit' and you just gotta love the pleading eyes or the hands together as in prayer!! and and the best one......I haven't been here for ages and I just wanna sing my songs.....if you don't let me sing, I'm never coming back!

Ok guys..... over to you. What do you do with that one singer who appears constantly with others in the room. Favouritism? I don't think so! Maaaan you gotta love the child in us all....... so easily hurt! Or do I care too much!

Reason for all this........the two lovely ladies (H & J) who sing with us quite regularly noted the A & B and then B again and branded me as a host who has favourites and gave me the death stare all night long! When I approached them to ask if everything was ok I got a blasting! Apparently I do this all the time...........maaan I know I, like most out there need glasses to look up a song but am I that blind to rotational fairness?

Ok forum.... over to you - what's your experience???
