From the Where2sing.com forum:

I'd love to make a comment on singer rotation. Where i go every week it is handled perfectly. When new singers appear they are not necessarily placed at the end of the rotation list, unless it does happen to be at the end of the round. Usually they are welcomed on stage sooner as there is no favouritism.
It's the crowd on the night that makes all the difference, it's not just about the singing...but rather the 'party' atmosphere and the laughing/talking/joking/dancing around. I'd rather have this than get an opportunity to get up 5 times or more to sing in an evening..... all because there's no-one there! And believe me i love getting any opportunity to get up to sing!!
So i agree with Music Addict, if there's other distractions then people dont notice how long they've waited. I also find that the 'naggers' that i have come across are usually the singers who are dis-illusioned that they are the best singer at the gig, and are the ones who comment on 'how crap' or 'how awful' certain singers are and put them down (yes, sometimes to their face). Perhaps they should go to a quiet place that hosts karaoke and they can sing to their hearts content...?
I do agree however that duets should be classed as the turn 'over' for those people in that round. Regardless if it's a 'last minute decision' to join their mate on stage (yeah sure!! us singers are not stupid)
Maybe the hosts should note this at the front of the songbooks to give themselves a quiet life? Such as some of them note that there are to be 'no slow songs after 10pm' ? A possible solution i guess.

Also, on another note, and on the question raised regarding competitions as a whole. I have participated in heat finals and can honestly say that the BEST singer of the night wins hands down. Regardless of how you look or dress and regardless if you're a comp. chaser who only turns up for the final after qualifying, the winner on the night is the best singer...simple. At the end of the day that's what it's all about...singing well and singing with confidence. The points system is silly and i've yet to see anyone win any comp. based on their pretty dress or smart suit. Or can anyone who has judged a comp. correct me and let us all know if anyone has won a comp. based on an extra point for dress? That'd be interesting to know, and set me straight if i'm wrong! To me the winner is always the person who sings fantastic and shows lots of confidence.
