Rovics........Good luck with your dihlema regarding rotations , but dont be to hard on yourself , 'cause at the end of the day , as Garry said , 'you cant please all of the people all of the time' , no matter what you do . He also said , your audience isnt stupid , & if you're trying to do the right thing , 98% of punters will appreciate & understand that. I think part of the problem is that 9 out of 10 punters who are impatient to sing (' am I there yet !?? ')are quite young (& stupid ?) & like most hosts (& venue managers) you want to encourage the younger ones as much as poss. Just be light hearted ,make sure you're having fun 'cause then you're audience will too , ensuring a busy night & if its busy , then wondering how to fit in the 'young & restless' might be like a problem that some lucky football coaches have when trying to fit a couple of injured stars back into an already powerfully performing team.
Regarding duets ......if you get a lot 'double-ups' , maybe you could introduce a duets only bracket. I know a lot of people rolltheir eyes at this suggestion , but me , I'd love it & I reckon if it became a more regular feature of some Karaoke nights , punters would become more adventurous with the songs they pick/sing . I'm always surprised at how few 'genuine duets' get done at Karaoke nights. It's a beautiful thing , hearing your voice in harmony with someone else. It doesn't always work , but when it does , it's heavenly ! You can actually FEEL the sound vibrations & it becomes a sensual , as well as a musical experience !! (puffs , pants , reaches for cold spoon !!) Maybe its time to rehash an old water conservation catch-cry......'Save (Karaoke) Time....Sing With A Friend'.............
