| From the Where2sing.com forum: Music Addict.........I disagree , & I hope KKK & A Host continue to bring their greivances to the general forum , 'cause this subject , in particular ,is relevant to hosts / operators in any state , in fact , in any business.
I run a specialised waterproofing company in the comercial industrial building industry , & just yesterday , one of Sydney's biggest bricklaying contractors rang me to say they want me to look after all their work , at the expense of my main competitor , who is currently not satisfying their needs.I can tell you I was all but doing cart wheels up the street. My competitor will no doubt blame / acuse me of all sorts of evil , but the truth is I met this guy 2 years ago by chance on a building site , gave him a business card , told him how & what I do & said ring me if you think I can help. I've also lost some great customers too , to some one elses fast spiel, cursed , sworn , then calmed down & said 'Oh well , you win some , you lose some'......
Karma Kay , KK said something very important......love your competitors.......we are all in this Karaoke business together , like one big family (almost) , & we all know there's always squabbles / spot fires in any family . Be inclusive with your competitors , life's much easier when you're getting along with them , rather than being insulated / isolated from them. As long as you know YOU'RE doing the right thing, you'll have the respect of your peers , & a clear enough conscience to sleep at night , & if you work hard to be at the forfront of this very competitive game , you'll have plenty of gigs too . A Host......very impressive posting in your defence of accusations of 'gig piracy' ....& make no mistake .... I'm not accusing you of anything . As I said , I've been in business in two industries , but after all you wrote the thing that sticks in my mind the most is the very last few words .............' we do not go out of our way to contact venues already running Karaoke unless we are sure we can do a better job'.......I just wonder which gigs this excludes , & whose criteria you're judging with ..........after all , any gig you're doing is 'better' than someone else , isn't it ??!.........LOL
