From the Where2sing.com forum:

Having been through a similiar experience in the early days of ROVICS (with a now very infamous host ...LOL) I can fully sympathise with Karma Kay and when one is in a situation such as this..... you can often find it difficult to understand why others do not feel the need to join you in your rage..... and as such Karma Kay probably feels she is fighting a very lonely battle... and is probably seeking acknowledgement for her anger.

ROVICS has indeed been fortunate in its 4 year existence in that we have to date... not yet lost a venue.... however I am fully aware that It will probably happen sooner or later... and in saying that I am also aware that we have been targeted by many operators... not least of which by the Karaoke company in question when it first commenced its operation..and maybe even since.....but of that I have no knowledge.

At the time.... the Management of our Venue said they had been quoted a price of some $100 less than our standard rate ...including the offer of prizes and competitions.... however its also got to be said that the attempt at undercutting was not corroborated by the Karaoke company in question and we were fortunate that after some investigation by the entertainment manager they considered ROVICS the better option.

It would seem to me that many ...probably most Karaoke companies... seeking to run with a multi venue format... are never able to duplicate or recreate the original succesfull Karaoke show format... with each successive duplication often becoming a very poor clone indeed of the original show and it would seem that it is at this point where a Karaoke company becomes strictly a money making venture and ceases and indeed finds it impossible to maintain the quality or standard of their show. This is blatantly obvious of a number of multi venue operators in Brisbane and I am certain throughout Australia..leaving very many potentially great Karaoke venues in their wake usually with a very poor impression and indeed often a total dislike for Karaoke in any form... Is it any wonder that so many venues still consider Karaoke as a pastime reserved only for the pathetically drunk or the chronically tone deaf?

As James said earlier... and even though for most operators ..Karaoke is a business....I remain of the oppinion that in such an intimate business as this is .....it remains important if not vital to earn and maintain the respect of your peers and conduct your Karaoke business accordingly and not only should we be 'doing the right thing' we should also be 'seen' to be doing the right thing.
