Now that comment about the judge who marks down just cos they don't like an element that makes up a particular style of singing is a very valid point. It annoys the heck out of me when judges do that sort of thing and in most cases, it just shows they have little understanding of various styles of singing. In other cases however, they may be marking down due to the fact that they can hear how an element added in for effect can actually detract from the singer's true vocal quality evidenced throughout the rest of the song. Sort of like adding too much spice to a recipe and thus ruining the whole dish. Music is an art form. The judging of it should be also.
