From the Where2sing.com forum:

Well, I got around to watching the Karaoke Dokey final... a few thoughts. Keep in mind that I didn't stick around to see who won, I don't have a lot faith in the Australian public voting for the right peron. Enter Federal Elections for the last 10 years as exhibit A (end rant)

* It's this kind of show that makes me want to pursue comp judging a little more. I really don't know whether Bob Downe and Denise Drysdale had a mandate to take the piss and generally be all Hey Hey It's Saturday, but it did nothing for the reputation of karaoke in my opinion. Denise had very little relevant comments to make and I wonder what her purpose really was. Celebrity Judge? Did she have a vote? Why do we care what she thinks? lol. Also, she had no right to pull (was it Mandy?) up on doing the Aerosmith song. Denise didn't like it? Tough, not your job to make comment as a 'judge' as to whether you personally like the song or not, just pay attention to the performance please...

* The show did however really show how critical song choice is. To any contestants reading this, I want to congratulate all of you for keeping a straight face through it all (except for Hoe... rofl) and I think you all did a great job of what really wasn't a karaoke show. Having said that, I don't think any of the performers nailed it and most were down to poor song choice. I've seen Shai-Elise (spelling?) sing on a number of occassions and she's a fabulous singer with amazing stage presence, but she just walked through her song. It was interesting that Denise pulled her up on her pitching as I felt the same. Makes me wonder whether those foldbacks were plugged in... I've also had the pleasure to see Julie perform several times up at the Hornsby Inn and while she is an outstanding singer and Simply The Best is certainly a comp song, I didn't feel as though the marriage was a comfy one. I also wouldn't have picked Better Man and Your Song as comp songs...

* I notice that the clips in the background all had Bob Downe on them and figure that they had to re-record the tracks, possibly for copyright reasons? Makes me wonder whether the singers were restricted in the songs they could have done.
