| From the Where2sing.com forum: As many will know by now ...ROVICS Karaoke are no longer hosting at the BROOK hotel and whilst this is quite dissapointing for us ..considering the considerable amount of time and effort we personally put into this venue over the past year or so.. which prior to Saturday night Karaoke ....was all but dead in the water..... and the BROOK Bar itself was often closed on Saturday nights by 9.30pm despite them having tried a number of different forms of entertainment previously..all to no avail ..not to mention the money we personally spent on prizes ..producing flyers and other material to promote theme nights etc.... all with little or no support from the venue itself...offers of providing our own banners... competitions etc. were met with notable disinterest.....excepting in the earlier months when the then assistant manager Mark...was proactive..supportive and excited by the dramatic improvement in Saturday night attendances at the BROOK.
A high turnover in bar staff.... regular middle mangement changes....with very young and often totally inexperienced and inappropriate junior bar staff being promoted to fill the voids and finally with a management change taking its toll. In the last few months It was certainly NOT unusual for us to find that on our arrival to set up for Karaoke on a Saturday to find the whole BROOK hotel 'complex' totally void of patrons...with the exception of maybe 4 or 5 addicted gamblers in the gaming room ..other than that and except for the occassional 'good night'.... nothing!....It had become blatantly obvious that the former manager of the BROOK had lost interest in his charge and had taken a completely passive attitude towards promotion.... marketing and indeed all facets of hotel management.
Did Karaoke in itself fail at the BROOK?.... NO not at all!!.....with usually 30+ singers EVERY Saturday night...but lets face it..many passionate Karaoke singers are NOT known for their drinking prowess.....and of course Karaoke is essentially governed by the bartake and besides attracting Karaoke singers to their venues by employing quality Karaoke operators....Venue managers need to fully understand that Karaoke will ..and does.... entertain a much wider audience than ardent Karaoke singers and as such they need to address the very reasons as to why and how patrons are attracted to any venue..... and for what reasons......but that takes management and marketing skills..something which is sadly lacking in so many Venues today.
At the risk of sounding egotistical...ROVICS karaoke will NOT accept any more venues unless the venue in question is able to show (Contract) a willingness support Karaoke and also be able to display a basic minimum standard of their support in the form of Banners... regular advertising and in house promotional material.
