From the Where2sing.com forum:

I was waiting to see if where2sing was going to pick up this story and I must say I was happy to see David waited for my response before printing the article. Thanks David.
I was also hoping to see some feedback on the “taking gigs from other operators” comments. Andrew, as I stated, I have never gone after anyone else’s gigs.
The Monash had a change of management as you would be aware. Sharlene, the new manager was from the Fern Tree Gully Hotel, one of my ALH venues for the past 2 years.
Rather than discussing in depth in public I would be happy to discuss this with you over the phone. The bottom line is. She was not happy and I was asked to take over this venue by Sharlene, If I could not do the gig and try to improve numbers, she would simply axe it or move me to another night as there is to much competition from the Notting Hill Hotel ( No Karaoke there just a cheep drink uni night)
To make another point clear I DID NOT offer my Karaoke Idol comp to the Monash Hotel because there was Karaoke there already (Andrew). I do not generate business like that. The Monash Hotel is NOT running any Karaoke Competition.
I was asked to run the competition at the Bayswater Hotel as well (another ALH venue) and did not because there is another show running there.
The professionalism of BPM is also one of integrity when it comes to looking after another operators show. We take out our advertising sleeves from our song books and I generally insist on getting those operators business cards as well. We have filled in for quite a few shows over the years and never had any conflict of interests.
Thank you David (NSW singer) for hitting on the most important point of all.
Offer the venue a solution, what does company A do better than company B to try and attract people to a new venue. It could be a comp, it could be a data base of singers it could be a very active web site. Karaoke is not for everyone including venues. I run 10 D.J’s, Duo’s and Bands and offer corporate hire (plasma’s, projectors, sound systems)
BPM Entertainment’s hosting style of running Karaoke shows is not for everyone and does not suit every venue. There are 100s of venues in Melbourne and many opportunities so there is no need for me to poach someone else’s venue.
Keeping Karaoke alive and healthy should be the aim of all professional operators. We, as hosts, do not make money for a venue; the punters that we attract are the ones who generate the income.
