Jason...
1. Thanks for the booth / alcove answer.
2. You 'believe' one of the judges posts here. You're so diplomatic. You KNOW he does. Heheheh.
and;
3. A new name, huh? How about... 'Rock Hard' (always good for the innuendo) or 'Leatherback' (the 1 occasion we met in person, you had that nice jacket on but I don't know if it's a regular item)?

Ron Jeremy...
I know Angelo had his fans that night at Chatty. I love the guy myself and if I had his looks, charm, fashion sense and vocal control... MAN!! I wouldn't be on here so often. I'd be out wif DA LADIES!!! lol
However, on the night, he lost points on my book (I was one of the judges if you recall - and even if you don't! lol), mainly for his first song. His vocals, good as they were, weren't up to scratch on that one and he wasn't quite as fresh faced as he could have been. I mean, he was dressed fabulously but he could have better groomed the beard and washed his face before gracing the stage to complete the look rather than look like he was faking it. I KNOW he wasn't but as an impartial judge, I had to judge him for his presentation ON THE NIGHT and not what I know he usually presents himself as. That was just a minor point on presentation. It was really the vocals on the first song that cost him a higher placing on my scoresheet. I likewise had to judge his voice on the night and not what I know he's capable of (as I suspect you were - it's easy to do) so, that first song really did cost him a lot. His vocals improved tremendously for his next 2 songs and he also gained points for his song diversity. I docked him a point for the lack of costume change and I did likewise with 4th place getter (and EVERYONE else who didn't have one, so as to be fair).
However, the 2 who beat him (Jenny and Al) were consistent with their vocals right from the start (Al actually improved with his 2nd and 3rd songs - the 1st one, he was a little too metronome for my appreciation, there was little style but he got past that for his next 2 numbers). They also got extra points for their costume changes and song diversity. Had Angelo started off as great as he was for his 2nd and 3rd numbers AND had costume changes, he may very well have placed higher but that's how (fairly judged) comps go. It's the whole package on the night that does it and that night, I think he deserved the place he got.
I'd love to see him win and there was one comp where he came 2nd to me and at the time of the announcements, I thought he was going to beat me but when the whole package was looked at, it was a fair call. Again, I had the costume changes working for me plus my stage performance was better. I've seen him get ripped off in comps too where he didn't place when he really deserved to - much more so than those who did. Angelo's a great performer and I have absolutely no shame in saying I'm a big fan of his. I don't know how old he is but if he's young enough to go on shows like Aust. Idol, he could wipe the floor with the other singers in my opinion. He's the whole package: Voice, looks, style and charm.
I'm sorry you didn't agree with the decision and I know from the collective groan that went out in his corner when he was announced as 3rd place, that you were not alone in your opinion but overall, as I said, I think it was a fair judgement.
Actually, my choice for 4th place was someone other than the guy who took that place - a woman whose name escapes me - she sang Anastacia's 'I'm Outta Love' as her first song and like Angelo, she stuffed that one compared with how she would normally sing it but her second number and costume change did it for me, so I scored her much higher and fully expected to see her in the 3rd round but my fellow judges seemed to take issue with her. For more detail on the scoring, see my post for Sat 22 Jul which starts off saying it was a long post in relation to the comp at Chatswood the previous evening. It's back about 2 or 3 pages, I think.
