Barri Tone…The way in which you have written your post and asked questions about what’s right and wrong in getting a karaoke Gig suggests to me that it’s written hypothetically and is not a true scenario.
Therefore if this is the case then from one hypothetical question would come more than one hypothetical answer.
You’ll get some people saying that business is business is business and that is really true in most aspects of the business world.
People try to get contracts over their competitors all the time, that’s business.
The Karaoke world however seems to have evolved into one in which most of the reputable operators respect their competitors Gigs and do not seek out displacing them from their current Gigs.
Of course there are those that use burnt discs, do not have any morals and will work for peanuts.
Everyone has probably heard of the saying before “if you pay peanuts you get monkeys”.
Having said all that I have been offered to do a couple of Karaoke shows (in the past ) where at one I knew the operator and the other I didn’t.
In both cases I turned them down.
I suppose that I am different than most operators, in that I now look after a wife that needs care (as she has syringomyelia) and one Karaoke Gig is enough.
Knowing that you have a fulltime job and that this would only be hobby/extra cash I would definitely go on the moral high ground and seek a gig at some venue where Karaoke is not running.
Now before anyone say’s “but moral high ground doesn’t pay the bills” I know, but most of the bigger Karaoke operators do not poach jobs off current operators, but find their own venues.

Kind Regards
Kev
