An interesting topic. My main questions would be:
Why is the venue not happy with a host they have had for around 12 months.
If the show is a solo operator show, maybe the host has gone a little stale? (the main down side to one man shows)
Am I going to be able to do better as far as the venue is concerned?
What can you offer the venue that they are not getting now?
Yes business is business. IN MOST CASES!! and by the sound of it, as was the case that happened with my company only a few months ago If they are going to get rid of the host that is there anyway and employ someone else, it may as well be you.
On the other hand, as a business, I would like to be sure that I can offer more than the other operator or that my style of show is what the venue is looking for. Otherwise you may well find that you will be in the same boat down the track. In THIS situation I would not take the gig. I tend to look more for longevity than a heap of short term gigs “ The right operator for the right Job”
