From the Where2sing.com forum:

Karma Karaoke Kay.... it seems strange that, as a host desiring to build a hosting business, that your main focus is on singing. Whilst you may enjoy singing, this is probably not the reason that people will come to your shows. Maybe I can go as far as to suggest that most singers will care nothing about your ability or desire to sing - they are there to sing themselves.

To jump from implicit trust of others in business to total mistrust and a questioning of their motives and actions is to suggest a lack of knowledge of business and people, and perhaps may be better resolved by learning the reasons behind people's behaviour rather than attributing it to a cold business mechanics.

People do what serves them best, and to correctly anticipate people's actions (whether in business or not) it is a matter of establishing their objectives. For example, the venue manager in question may have decided that the other operator was the one he wished to engage, but perceived you as being less than receptive to this information - he may have decided that, should he give you reasonable notice, that you may have done something that would have caused him problems. Of course this is purely speculation, but certainly there was something that led him to stay with his choice of the other host, and indeed something that led him not to give you any notice that your services were no longer required.
