Would it be fair to say that at the point where a former Karaoke enthusiast/singer moves into the realms of hosting ....and as such commences to earn an income from hosting ...he or she can then expect to be subject to all the normal rules (and limitations) that apply to any business .....irrespective of the particular industry?.and as such one must be prepared for and in turn plan for those situations with appropriate strategies.
Obviously a business does not become viable until something is sold..be it either a service or a product and as such most businesses employ sales staff to seek out fresh business by offering alternatives to prospective customers.
As a host seeking out new venues...what does one do?......seek out only those venues with no Karaoke at all?......seek out only those venues from operators we happen to either not like or may have no respect for or feel we can do better?......or... offer an alternative to any/all appropriate venues ..in the hope that they may be looking for a change or seeking a better quality Karaoke? That surely is the dilema for any operator.
Yes there certainly are some very unsavoury characters within the Karaoke industry as I guess there are in most walks of life......Our baptism into Karaoke hosting by one now very infamous QLD Host...... was filled with inuendo...threats ..slander....banned from attending all of his venues.... with him even having the audacity to attend one of our newly acquired gigs..drag the then manager outside.... and proceed to slander us up hill and down dale.........Interestingly.... at that time....people whom we assumed were our friends and with whom we had been well acquainted within Karaoke circles for some time and with whom we remain acquainted to this day.....offered absolutely no support whatsoever and in fact kept supporting this particular operator in almost every aspect of his business and merely accepted his slander/threats of us.... not only as Karaoke operators but as people in general.... without as much as a whisper of support...where we disappointed?..You bet!! ....as was stated in an earlier post.....'As long as its not happening to them they didnt give a fat rats one'....we are over it now of course ...and are wiser for the experience.
It should also be noted that not 2 weeks ago our Van was defaced by a person or persons unknown whilst it was parked on our property...a matter of course best left in the hands of the police...however it serves as a reminder... that whilst I believe that in the majority.... most people conduct their business in an ethical and honest manner....there are those amongst us who would seek otherwise.
