From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hey guys,
I guess I should clarify what I mean here, if you lose a gig due to another host just popping in out of nowhere and taking it, then yes I feel it is your fault.
We have never actually lost a gig to someone else (touch wood) in the 5 years we have been around and I think that is due to communication.
I agree that if the karaoke just doesn't work in that particular venue or the new management has their own karaoke company then you might just be in trouble.
In saying that we have been in both of those situations yet kept the gigs, once again due to communication and relationship building.
I will give you an example, We have a Video DJ show at a pub that is an absolute flop. We get about 5 people there a week yet the owner likes having us around and have kept us there now for 3 years!
I have even called him to say 'look its just not working' but he insists on keeping us on.
This is due ONLY to our relationship with this man and nothing else.
Look up a guy called Maslow and his heirachy of needs, it really outlines the emotional needs of buyers.
Cheers,
Rob.
